Architectural Heritage

Our architectural design pays homage to the rich heritage of Shusha, drawing inspiration from the caravanserai concept. Proudly situated at the center of Shusha on the historic 'Zafar road,' we are the city's first 5-star 'Hotel and Congress Center.' Our building seamlessly fuses modern and national architectural styles, featuring ornamental compositions and national architectural elements that celebrate the region's cultural traditions.

Prominent people

There is no shortage of personalities from Shusha, known as ‘shushalilar’ in Azerbaijani, who have left their mark in Azerbaijan's literary, cultural and social life. The last Karabakh khan, Mehdigulu Khan's daughter, Khurshidbanu Natavan, was not only a beautiful poet and painter, but also gained a reputation for her philanthropic activities.

Mosques

Shusha boasts historical landmarks, particularly its mosques known for their impressive architecture. Two gems are the Yukhari (Upper) Govhar Agha and Ashaghi (Lower) Govhar Agha mosques. Both were built in the 1800s by the renowned architect Karbalayi Safikhan Garabaghi, commissioned by Govhar Agha, daughter of a Karabakh ruler. Saatli Mosque, another magnificent project of Karbalayi Safikhan Garabaghi, adds to the distinctiveness of Shusha.

Vagif Mausoleum

Shusha is a cultural cradle, having nurtured numerous historical figures, including renowned artists and cultural icons who shaped Azerbaijan's heritage. Among them, Molla Panah Vagif (1717-1797) holds a special place in 18th-century Azerbaijani literature. Known for his emphasis on realism, folk elements, and optimism in his poetry, Vagif also served as a vizier to Ibrahim Khalil Khan. To honor his literary and social contributions, a majestic mausoleum was built in 1982 on the rocky Jidir Duzu plain, where the poet was laid to rest, becoming a landmark in Shusha.

Jidir Duzu

One of the best places to experience in Shusha is Jidir Duzu, a gorgeous, grassy plateau south of the city with incredible views over the Dashalti River valley and Lesser Caucasus Mountains. Given the setting and vast flat expanse, before the conflict the area was long used as a venue for cultural events, from Novruz holiday celebrations to thrilling games of chovgan – an ancient version of polo. Since the conflict, in May 2021 it hosted the Kharibulbul International Music Festival, named after the incredibly rare and culturally symbolic kharibulbul flower that grows in Shusha, an assembly of the best musicians from all over the country.
